Job Description –
Thank you for your interest in a tour guide position at CoveredGround Tours! For summer 2024 we are hiring a number of guides to drive our vans and lead tours of up to 11 people on day trips throughout Yellowstone National Park. This is a great position to display leadership, presenting and education. Here are a couple of quick details about the position:
Days are typically 7am to about 7pm. Most tours start and end in Cody, WY, aside from multi-day trips or occasional out of area pickup. Each day tour drives 256 miles roundtrip.
We are an active tour company so when we park at features, we get out and walk the highlights with clients. Each day a guide can expect to walk about 10,000 steps (~ 3miles) at high elevation – about 7,400 ft. Prospective guides should understand their physical abilities at altitude.
We are planning to start in-person training May 10, 2024. If you can’t make it for that that can be OK but please let us know. We will be sharing self-study training material out before this date. Yellowstone knowledge can get pretty complicated and be intimidating but fear not, we will teach you most of what you need to know and how to say it, but an ideal candidate is someone that can prove their ability to research and learn things on their own as Yellowstone knowledge can be endless.
We do not have a cookie-cutter route for our guides to mimic and follow. In reality, we are looking to train guides on all things Yellowstone and all possible stops, and allow them to curate a tour based on many factors of their group that day. Guides should expect to hone their skills in leadership, public speaking, decision-making and technical training while also being good at simply ‘hanging out’ with guests and having a good time. We’re simply looking for bright, energetic people with fun & friendly personalities!
Currently, we are looking for Cody area locals willing to share their love of Yellowstone with tourists from across the country. We are looking for a handful of select guides to drive 2-4 days a week. If this sounds like a good fit for you, please submit an application!

Should we reach a point where we schedule an interview either in-person or on Google Meet, we will ask you to prepare a short 1-2 minute talk on either Grizzly Bears, Wolves in Yellowstone or Geysers and Hydrothermal features.
